An exciting addition to Somerville

For those who don’t know, the old Armory in Somerville on Highland Ave has been renovated to become a community arts space.  I went to visit Deb McLaughlin, who is overseeing the launch and operation of this program, today.  All I can say is…WOW!

The space (see images) is both beautiful and functional…and its HUGE!  SLF will be looking for ways to collaborate with this space and have already begun discussions about holding future events there.

BUT, they need our help. On Monday January 26th,  the Somerville Licensing Board will be holding a hearing to determine whether or not Arts @ The Armory gets an Entertainment license.  There have already been numerous delays to the opening, including a lengthy dialogue with the neighbors.  I will be attending the hearing and composing an SLF letter of support, but if you have time or can make it to show your love, please do so.

If you are an artist in the Somerville area, it is in your best interest to see this space reach its potential.  Who knows what it might lead to in the future…

I can say, unequivocally, that we will be a more creative, sustainable and cool community if this space is allowed to flourish…please do what you can to help.
